Isarco Valley

La Isarco Valley is one of the main valleys ofSouth Tyrol and extends for about 80 km from the source of the Isarco river to the Brenner up to the mouth of the Adige in Bolzano.
For various historical and cultural reasons, the Isarco Valley itself extends south of Fortezza, while the upper part is a separate area and is called Wipptal.
The Isarco Valley is now made up of 13 municipalities, mainly German-speaking, the highest Italian concentration is located in Bressanone, with about 25%.

For those who choose a holiday in the Isarco Valley there is only the embarrassment of choosing among the various activities to which it is possible to dedicate themselves. Who loves the walks in the fresh air and excursions can choose from 33 trails winding along the valley. These routes lead through suggestive and impactful landscapes, passing through Mediterranean vegetation, up to purely alpine regions.
The trails allow you to choose between different degrees of difficulty and different lengths, so that everyone can choose the solution that best suits their needs and abilities.
The routes often include scenic spots or traditional huts, where a stop is worthwhile.

The valley is also rich in cultural attractions, thanks to its ancient history, which takes its first steps in the Romanesque era. Precisely for this reason there are also many points of cultural interest that are worth visiting during a stay in the Isarco Valley and that can be encountered during excursions. The variety of artistic testimonies contained in this small valley ranges from early Romanesque frescoes to Gothic cloisters, from fantastic Baroque churches to pretty mountain churches, from the beautiful residences of the notables of the past to the testimonies of the early years of the industrial age.
In addition to the countless works of more or less famous artists, we must not forget the masterpieces of nature, which dot the entire valley, deserve a mention the Waterfalls in Hell in Fleres di Dentro, the Gilfenklmann Ravine, at the entrance to Val Racines, the Achenrain Gorge in Ridanna and the Burkhard Waterfalls in Ridanna.

In addition to traditional walks, it is still possible to carry out many activities in the valley, pedaling on the mountain bike, play golf, visit one of the small pearls of the valley including the delightful tourist resorts of Bressanone and Chiusa, Funes, Maranza and Sterzing, Varna, Velturno, Racines and others.

A note in itself deserves the gastronomy of the Isarco Valley, rich in typical flavors and recipes, which the visitor certainly cannot fail to know. An interesting event in this sense, which takes place in spring, is the "Eisacktaler Kost", the week of taste, the oldest gastronomic festival in South Tyrol, an event appreciated by the local population and by tourists who can taste traditional dishes taken from grandmother's recipe books.

This valley is wonderful, in summer and in winter ...
Organized, not chaotic, with the possibility of trips of any degree of difficulty, from the very simple Rifugio delle Odle to the more demanding Sass de Putia with a short equipped section to climb to the top.
Getting to the bottom of the valley and seeing the Odle is entrancing :)
