Val di Fiemme in summer
La Val di Fiemme it is a valley in the Dolomites, located in eastern Trentino, surrounded by the Val di Fassa, the Val d'Ega and the Valsugana. The valley is made up of 11 municipalities (Predazzo, Cavalese, Tesero, Capriana, Valfloriana, Carano, Daiano, Varena, Castello – Molina di Fiemme, Panchià and Ziano) and is enclosed between two very suggestive natural parks: the Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino Natural Park and the Atesino one of Monte Corno.
These two reserves are very different from each other, although they are very close. The Paneveggio - Pale di San Martino natural park is famous for its expanses of spruce trees (chosen by Stradivari for his violins) and for the deer population, while the natural park of Monte Corno it is known for its particular vegetation (where carnivorous plants also appear) and for its fauna made up of many species of birds.

In summer the Val di Fiemme offers the possibility of suggestive living excursions in the Dolomites, which frame it, or pleasant walks in the natural parks, where you can relax in total contact with nature. In addition to excursions and walks, you cannot miss a visit to the Bike Park Cermis, for those who love thrills and mountain biking, to which it joins Cermislandia, a playground surrounded by greenery all dedicated to families, where children can have fun outdoors.
Val di Fiemme is a locality recommended for families, the wide and sweet territory makes it easy to cross with paths that wind through the woods and green meadows where the cows graze. The Valley, however, is not only nature, but also offers the opportunity to know and deepen the culture of the places and to visit many towns and villages, which represent small jewels of art and history. The visitor can therefore range from villages that have preserved their traditions to occasions in which modern art forms are valued. It is possible, for example, to visit the Museum of Uses and Customs of the Trentino People, the most complete ethnographic museum on the history of Trentino and on the culture of the inhabitants of the valley.
The population of the Valley has a strong identity of its own and a great attachment to their origins and this is testified by the fact that the "Magnificent Community of Fiemme“, An ancient Lombard-style institution, still manages the immense wooded heritage and keeps alive the historical, social and cultural identity of the Val di Fiemme.
For those who feel closer to modern culture, the ideal destination is the Contemporary Art Center in Cavalese, which will satisfy the desire to discover new forms of art and culture even on vacation.
Another heritage of the valley is represented by gastronomic tradition, which can be discovered through the Strada dei Formaggi delle Dolomiti (which aims to enhance dairy products in particular) or by participating in the Desmontegade of Cavalese and Predazzo, opportunities to fully experience the ancient traditions of farmers and unique moments of celebration to get to know the food and wine products of the valley.
Where to go in Val di Fiemme
Cavalese
Cavalese is the main town in the Val di Fiemme and is the tourist hub of the whole valley. Well exposed to the sun, it extends over the slopes of the valley with a very large inhabited center full of services and steeped in history. The buildings of the past that keep the charm of the historic center intact are flanked by numerous modern accommodation facilities with 3 and 4 star hotels, wellness centers and typical restaurants. Cavalese is the beating heart of the area, here we find the main events during the summer season and is therefore one of the main destinations for those who decide to stay in Val di Fiemme.
One of the main ski lifts in the Val di Fiemme also starts from the center of Cavalese, we are talking about the Cermis.
The cable car descends from the village to the road that runs along the valley floor and then climbs up to over 2000 meters above sea level. Therefore, in a very short time and in comfort you can climb to high altitude and reach the starting point for fantastic excursions on the Lagorai chain. The system that starts from the center is a peculiarity of Cavalese, it is in fact the only town in the area that can boast this convenient high-altitude transport system, so it is possible to leave the cars in the parking lot or better still reach the departure of the cableway using the numerous shuttle buses connected with all the other villages in the valley.
Molina di Fiemme
Before Predazzo we find another town in the Val di Fiemme, Molina di Fiemme. Between an altitude of 900-1000 meters of altitude.
Ziano it is a quiet mountain village connected to the others also through the Fiemme-Fassa cycle path. Great for anyone looking for one quiet vacation destination but with all the necessary comforts, it is well connected with the rest of the valley and from here various excursions depart towards the Lagorai chain.
One of the excursion destinations offered by the town of Ziano is towards the Baita and Malga Cauriol, about 30 minutes by car you reach the small internal valley. From the hut (from here on only on foot) you can reach the Sadole step and the famous peak of the Mount Cauriol which gives the name to the hut.
The hut and the Cauriol hut is one ideal destination also for families with children, here in fact there is a outdoor playground where children can have fun with water games with paths made of wood and give space to the imagination in the large lawn that characterizes this area. For hikers, on the other hand, it is often the starting point for numerous itineraries towards the main peaks of the Lagorai.
Predazzo
About 10 ~ 15 minutes by car from Cavalese we find the second most important town, Predazzo.
This is the second town in the valley by extension, number of inhabitants and services offered. Unlike Cavalese, here the inhabited area develops in the valley nestled between the wide green spaces of the Val di Fiemme.
Predazzo is a focal point for traveling in the valley, here you meet the roads that go up towards Val di Fassa, or head towards Bellamonte, the Paneveggio Natural Park, Passo Valles (Falcade) and Passo Rolle (San Martino di Castrozza).
We can say that from Predazzo you can reach many points of interest in the Val di Fiemme and Val di Fassa in less than 30 minutes, hence the importance of the town.
Predazzo was also a point of reference in the times of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the testimony is found in the museum located near the ancient church of the town. The center is alive and in addition to the numerous hotels, bed and breakfasts and restaurants, we also find many events that animate the tourist seasons of the Val di Fiemme.
Another point of interest is the “Predazzo countryside”, a green area where the local farms are concentrated and a place where tourism meets the world of animals with numerous riding centers and quality farmhouses.
Predazzo is a place recommended above all for families and elderly people. The territory is almost flat and this makes it ideal for those who do not suffer from slopes, unlike Cavalese, walking here is easier thanks to the conformation of the territory.
Those who do not have any mobility problems and indeed are looking for adventure and high altitude, then Predazzo offers numerous routes that go up towards the Lagorai or even the ski lifts that lead to the heart of the Latemar mountain group where numerous hiking trails start. different complexity.
