San Martino di Castrozza in summer

San Martino of Castrozza

San Martino di Castrozza is a Dolomite town in the province of Trento, welcomes visitors both in summer and in winter, and the origin of its residential nucleus dates back to the times of the hospice of Saints Martino and Giuliano, which housed the people who passed through the Passo Rolle. Now only the church of San Martino remains of the original structure.

The history of San Martino di Castrozza as a tourist resort originated towards the end of the 800th century, then it underwent an obvious decline due to the two world wars, but from the second half of the 50s onwards it saw a real boom. Hotels and restaurants have been built, making the town one of the best known in Northern Italy.

In San Martino di Castrozza, holidays are characterized by natural beauties and high mountains: you can set out on foot for an itinerary that reaches the highest peak of the Pale di San Martino, at 3192 meters high. If you do not feel able to carry out excursions independently, the numerous mountain guides of the country will be able to accompany you with their skill and professionalism, they will be able to take into account the weather and your psychophysical conditions.

The Pale di San Martino are undoubtedly the symbol of the town and the entire area: they are coral mountains that rise majestically, but which take on truly magnificent colors at sunset. They have been there for 300 million years, and over the centuries they have fascinated travelers from all backgrounds and walks of life. At 2700 meters above sea level you can admire them up close by exploring the Altipiano delle Pale: a long stone table made up of bare rock, which gives the surrounding landscape a magical and lunar aspect.

In addition to the ascent to the Pale di San Martino, the most popular excursions in the area are those that go up to the high mountain refuges. The paths are very well marked and are maintained by the CAI-Sat. Choose the excursion that best suits your training and how you feel, in any case you will not be disappointed. The Pedrotti alla Rosetta refuge, the Colbricon, the Velo della Madonna and the Pradidali are just some of the alpine refuges that can be reached on foot, through walks of various lengths and levels of difficulty. The refuges in the San Martino di Castrozza area are spread over three mountain ranges: in addition to the Pale di San Martino, you can explore the Lagorai and the Vette Feltrine.
