It is now known that in the mountains people dress "onion" or with multiple layers of clothing in such a way that they can be put on and taken off according to the climate (in the mountains it varies very quickly). In the backpack it is recommended to always have:

» Windbreaker, even if you start with a splendid sunny day, the rain can arrive in a few minutes and radically change a day that seemed to be under the scorching sun.

» Fleece or sweater: for the same reason as before, sometimes a raincoat is not enough as the rain often brings with it a strong drop in temperature (sometimes even 10 degrees in a few hours), even if you walk and struggle a “winter” sweater is always comfortable in the high mountains.

» Change of underwear: rain and sweat can be a problem especially when you are at high altitude. If we are very sweaty or have been hit by a passing storm, there is nothing better than a nice quick change in order to avoid ailments.

» Spare laces or laces: sometimes it takes very little to break the laces of the boots, it is good to have a spare in your backpack so that you can change them and continue the excursion without problems.

» Bandana or neck warmer: they are ideal when the wind rises, they allow you to avoid unpleasant sore throats, and can also be used in place of a hat if it's cold.

To eat

On what to eat while hiking in the mountains, hikers are sometimes divided between “modern” and “traditionalists”.

The former argue that the best solution is to bring some energy bars as they are the only solution capable of providing the body with the right amount of nutrients needed.

The "traditionalists" instead argue that the best foods to take with you are some fruit (apple, banana), some dried fruit, chocolate with a variant of bread and Nutella (or jam) or bread and cheese.

It is advisable to take more breaks along the way but without bingeing on food, it is right to continue to provide nutrients to our body without weighing it down too much.

We can summarize that in the backpack you can put:
» 1-2 energizing bars
» A fruit (preferably a banana)
» A little chocolate
» And sandwiches (avoid sausages if you make very strenuous hikes) to eat when you reach the summit or during the main stop, sandwiches with jam, chocolate or cheese are preferable.

» To drink a nice water bottle and a thermos of tea, ideal for warming up in case of bad weather.
Better to avoid drinks like "Coca Cola, Sprite, Red Bull" etc ...

In the mountains it can happen that you get hurt, you have to be ready to have what you need such as patches and gauze as well as a little disinfectant.
It is also advisable to have medicines for fever and stomach ache or headache (the classic aspirin) with you.

In addition to the "emergency response" it is also right to bring with you:
» A utility knife (type Swiss army knife)
» A compass and an altimeter (optional but recommended)
» Trail maps
» Sunglasses and sunscreen (in the mountains you get tanned more than at the sea)

This is a small guide with some suggestions to prepare the backpack to take with us on a day excursion, in case you are planning a multi-day trip (even with a stop in a refuge) then this "equipment" is not enough.
