Resia Lake
Il Reschensee is located in the municipality of Curon Venosta, in the province of Bolzano (Trentino - Alto Adige), with an extension of 6,6kmq it is one of the largest and most fascinating lakes in the entire Alpine Arc.
The Resia lake is located in Vinschgau and it is an artificial lake, located just north of the lake of San Valentino alla Muta. AND' the largest lake in South Tyrol thanks to its 120 million cubic meters of water it contains, and is located along the State Road 40, which leads from Malles Venosta to the Austrian border.
The origin of the Resia lake occurred in 1950, when the construction of a dam joined two natural lakes submerging the entire village of Curon Venosta, rebuilt a little further upstream.
163 houses were submerged, as well as an extensive cultivated land and thus the space was created for the reservoir, 6 kilometers long and one wide. There was already talk of the construction of a lake to obtain hydroelectric energy in the 1939s, the works then began in 7000 but were suspended due to the war. At the end of the conflict they started again, thanks also to Swiss investments and the manpower of XNUMX workers.
Unique panorama in the world, from Reschensee the top of the Curon Venosta bell tower, dated 1357. In winter it is possible to reach the bell tower on foot, and a legend tells that the sound of the bells still echoes through the valley. The bell tower was renovated in July 2009, and the lake level was lowered due to the works.
