Il Sorapiss lake It belongs to the Dolomites mountain group of the same name and is located in northern Italy just 12km from Cortina d'Ampezzo in the province of Belluno (Veneto). The best time to visit this paradise, considered as one of the most evocative places in the Dolomites, and from June to September, in fact, in these months the white of the winter snow gives way to turquoise color of clear waters framed by the green of uncontaminated nature. How to reach and what to see on Lake Sorapiss?
Lake Sorapiss is dominated by its peak, called the Finger of God, which from its 2603 meters admires its turquoise waters, but it is not the only point, in fact, together with other peaks it creates a real natural amphitheater.
The highest peak, Punta Sorapiss is 3205 meters high above the sea level, near the Sorapiss Lake, is the Alfonso Vandelli Refuge. The access point of the standard route that leads to the lake is the CAI (Italian Alpine Club) hiking trail number 215. The route starts at Passo Tre Croci towards Vandelli Refuge and lasts about 2 hours, it is easily accessible even for the less experienced, compared to mountaineering routes, from the refuge in a few minutes you can reach the lake.
Near the refuge it is possible to admire a majestic panorama of the Sorapiss, Tre Sorelle and La Cesta mountains, to the north the Tre Cime di Lavaredo appear. Towards the north east it is possible to admire the peaks of the Sesto Dolomites, the southern part of this mountain range.
What to do on holiday at Lake Sorapiss?
Even during one short break or a weekend, it is possible to reach Cortina d'Ampezzo in a few minutes, visit the historic center and savor the traditional, refined and tasty cuisine, appreciated all over the world.
Among the excursions that can be practiced, the Via Ferrata Ivano Dibona it is a long path but of medium difficulty, here it is possible to discover testimonies of the First World War and take a walk of about 6 hours.
