Calaita lake
In the splendid Valle del Vanoi, in Trentino-Alto Adige, we find Lake Calaita, a choreographic balcony on the Pale di San Martino.
The lake is located not far from Fiera di Primiero, about fifteen kilometers, and can also be reached by car, via the road that leads to the Gobbera pass.
Furthermore, adjacent to the lake, you can find a large car park and a bar-restaurant, where you can rest and refresh yourself after a nice excursion. In fact, there are so many paths that climb into the surrounding area and from which it is possible to admire a unique flora and fauna, typical of the Trentino mountains.
From a geological point of view, the lake is of natural origin, surrounded by woods and expanses of green meadows and is located at about 1600 meters above sea level. Every year the lake attracts tourists, families and hikers, but also fishermen and ski enthusiasts, in the colder periods.

The simplest excursion allows the visitor to do the entire tour of the lake, a tour that does not present difficulties, but which allows you to admire beautiful places and landscapes, therefore it is also very suitable for families and it takes about 45 minutes to cover it entirely. and return to the starting point.
But beyond this, it is possible to implement other routes and excursions, to reach other places of sublime beauty, such as the Grugola hut and the Cima Folga, but also the Cima Tognola or the Pisorno lake. Itineraries that leave something different but unforgettable, each with its technical and landscape characteristics, from which you can admire different naturalistic attractions.
Among the examples of flora and fauna typical of the area we can admire roe deer, deer or chamois, but also foxes, marmots, squirrels, hares and badgers. The birds that frequent the waters of the place are the gray herons, which have made it a habitat. The fish fauna of lakes and streams is also rich in minnows, rudds or trout, but amphibians also populate these waters, and among many we can name toads and frogs, but also newts and salamanders.
The flora, on the other hand, is rich, mainly in aquatic vegetation, such as the amphibious polygon. The woods, on the other hand, are rich in conifers and pines.
How to Get There:
The lake can be reached in various ways. If you have a private vehicle, you can reach it from the A4 through the Padova Ovest exit, taking the state road 47 towards Bassano del Grappa. Subsequently, take the state road 50 bis towards Belluno, and once in Fonzaso you can turn to Primiero taking the state road 50. When you enter the Primiero Valley you must then turn left, into the Toboga tunnel, and when you exit they can easily follow the directions, taking the sp 79.
If you stop in Imer, in the summer there is a shuttle bus that takes you to the lake from Fiera di Primiero.
But beyond this, there are other ways to get to the lake, that is, arriving in San Martino di Castrozza by exiting the so-called Brenner motorway, exiting at Egna. After following the signs for Cavalese on state road 12, take route 48 which leads to Predazzo where you will then arrive at state road 50.
But if you do not have private transport, you can reach the lake by public transport, and more precisely by train and bus.
The train arrives as far as Feltre station, from where the Trentino Trasporti bus will then take you to Fiera di Primero after an hour's drive. Once in the village, always with the same company, it is possible to reach the lake, but only in the months between June and September. Making tickets is simple, because you can also do it on the vehicle, or in the ticket offices near the stops.
Trentino always gives emotions, and Lake Calaita is certainly one of them, an evocative place for expert hikers and families, all to be tasted and admired.
