Antrona Lake

Antrona Lake

Il Antrona lake is a small lake located in the northern Alps of Lombardy. The altitude is 1073 m asl and is located in a valley called, precisely, Valle d'Antrona.

To get there, take the provincial road that leads to the town of Antronapiana. Inside the valley there are numerous and natural basins trekking routes.

Its shores are the ideal place both for picnics with relatives and friends and for relaxing under the sun: it is a small pearl of paradise in the middle of the mountains, where the sun peeps out from the peaks.

Il Antrona lake it is a natural lake, which however was created by a massive landslide on 27 July 1642. From the top of Pozzuoli, in fact, about 12 million cubic meters of rocks broke off and covered the valley floor for more than 2 kilometers, reaching the gates Of Antronapiana. Unfortunately, about forty houses and as many inhabitants were damaged in this accident.

The lake can still be visited completely, and the tour is possible in both directions. Along these paths you can also find numerous wooden tables to use for your own picnics. In any case, there is also a bar restaurant for all those who do not have a packed lunch. Along the loop path that surrounds the Antrona lake you can find a particularly suggestive and unusual point: we are talking about the suspended walkway that allows you to pass through the Sajont waterfall.

On weekends, the lake is besieged by hundreds and hundreds of tourists, so it may be more difficult to find parking or tables for a picnic. If possible, we recommend visiting during the week.

Il Antrona lake it is also suitable for swimming, which means that you can immerse yourself in its emerald waters to cool off a bit. Usually, after the path that surrounds the lake, the more daring decide to go as far as the artificial lake of Campliccioli, which is also particularly suggestive.

The climb is moderately challenging and the path at the end leads to a dam where, if you are lucky, it is not uncommon to spot ibex.

Il Antrona lake it is the ideal place for a day trip with your family or friends, or even just to spend a few different hours away from the hustle and bustle of the city. And above all, don't forget your swimsuit: resisting such fresh and clear water is very complicated!
