Bormio in the summer
Bormio is known to many exclusively as a renowned winter ski resort, formerly the site of the Alpine Skiing World Championships in 1985 and 2005, and of the World Cup descent which takes place every year at the end of December. Indeed, thanks to the over 170 km of alpine and Nordic ski slopes, as well as the numerous itineraries to be covered with mountaineering skis and with "ciaspole" (snowshoes) within the Stelvio National Park, Bormio and the its area fully satisfy even the most demanding skiers.
Bormio, however, is not only the home of skiers, but of sportsmen in general! Cyclists will find bread for their teeth by trying their hand on some of the greatest climbs that have contributed to making this discipline noble in Italy and in the world: the Mortirolo, the Gavia Pass, the Stelvio Pass.
Mountain bike enthusiasts can instead train on the trails of the Stelvio National Park and in four different bike parks.
Trekking and Nordic walking lovers can count on over 600 km of trails, of different levels of difficulty, capable of satisfying everyone, from families to the most expert mountaineers. And the scenery is breathtaking: the great peaks of the Ortles Cevedale group and the uncontaminated landscapes of the Stelvio National Park allow you to immerse yourself in a typical Alpine environment where, in the majestic coniferous forests, it is easy to spot the animals that live permanently in the protected area of Park; in addition to the large ungulates - deer, roe deer, chamois and ibex - we cannot forget the marmot, the eagle owl, the eagle, symbol of the Park, the lammergeier, the Alpine vulture, and many others.
In addition, Bormio offers its guests a nine-hole golf course, indoor and outdoor tennis courts, a bowling green and numerous other activities to fully breathe the pleasure of the mountains.
After so much effort a little healthy relaxation ... just let yourself be pampered by the warm natural thermal waters (37 ° -43 °), known since ancient Roman times, of Bormio Terme (affiliated with the National Health System), Bagni Nuovi and dei Bagni Vecchi will allow you to reconcile with your soul. The facilities offer over seventy different types of spa practices, including indoor and outdoor pools and pools accessible 12 months a year, with the possibility of massages, muds, beauty treatments and much more.

After the sport, after the relaxation, it's time to sit down at the table and refresh yourself with the typical mountain man's menu! It begins with an appetizer based on sloppy, bresaola and cold cuts and cheeses; followed by the first, the mythical ones pizzoccheri and the wrongdoers. As a second course, we propose game jelly accompanied by polenta taragna, excellent porcini mushrooms and chanterelles. Following, a small interlude with typical cheeses, above all Bitto and Casera and, for dessert, a slice of bisciola. All obviously accompanied by full-bodied red wines from Valtellina, among which Sfurzat stands out. To conclude the meal, an excellent “Pignattino coffee” and an amaro, a Braulio or a Taneda, prepared with local aromatic herbs.
Bormio is not only sport and entertainment but also art, culture and history. A walk in the splendid historic center with churches, palaces and museums will allow you to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of other times of what was for seven hundred years a small municipal democracy in the center of the Alps.
