Bardonecchia in summer

Bardonecchia

Bardonecchia combines the charm of nature with the comforts of the city. At the beginning of the twentieth century it was an elite tourist destination, today, thanks to the convenient motorway connections from both France and Italy, Bardonecchia is a popular destination both in summer and in winter.

Bardonecchia in fact offers all year round the possibility of enjoying a holiday in nature, doing sports or dedicating oneself to pure relaxation and fun. In summer Bardonecchia is a very popular destination for mountaineers, sportsmen and families, because it offers a splendid alpine landscape, the possibility of practicing all outdoor sports and events and activities for parents and children.

If in winter the ski facilities bring thousands of skiers to the slopes, in the summer the same facilities bring many bikers to the top. For those who love the Downhill, the Piedmontese town, offers a bike Park respectable with slopes, tracks and routes suitable for both beginners (or those who want to take their first steps) and for those who are already sailed and have many descents behind them.
The Bardonecchia Bike Park attracts bikers from Italy and from all over Europe, it is not difficult to find lines of French who come to train on the Piedmontese slopes. Bardonecchia has been able to build a tailor-made tourist offer for lovers of 2 wheels around this sport. Most hotels can boast the title of "Bike Hotels", Facilities equipped for all needs; bike storage, repair shops, free trail maps and meals for true sportsmen.

But Bardonecchia does not live on mountain biking alone, the Piedmontese mountains also offer different hiking trails ideal for those who love walking in the mountains, among which it is worth mentioning "the streets of paradise" and the "Grange Teppa":

ROAD OF PARADISE

(loop ride, 2km, 215m of difference in altitude, 2h45 'of walking)
From Piazza del Mercato del Borgovecchio, go up Viale San Rocco for 100 m, turn left on the bridge over the Rho stream and take the mule track that climbs to Poggio Tre Croci. Follow this last up to the 7th bend where you meet a signposted crossroads; leave the road and take the flat path on the left, along which you will find a building with an adjoining penstock. Above the village of Les Arnauds the path begins to descend and near the Rio Fosse it crosses a dirt path that leads to the hamlet of Melezet; take it and reach the provincial road. Here, to return to Bardonecchia, you can take the public transport bus or walk down to Les Arnauds and return to the market square via the Strada del Canale (or Passeggiata del Canale), an obvious flat path that starts from the provincial road and ends at the bridge over the Rho stream already crossed at the start of the route.

GRANGE TEPPA, GRANGE GUIAUD

(350mt difference in altitude, travel time 1h15 ′)
From Bardonecchia reach Pian del Colle, beyond the hamlet of Melezet, and stop near the first campsite (Campeggio Pian del Colle), where the itinerary starts. Take the dirt road in front of it which passes to the left of a dilapidated house and to the right of a fountain, enter the Vallone des Acles: go straight on following the signs for the Grange Teppas, Colle des Acles. The path winds slightly uphill along the Comba della Gorgia stream, then turns left and begins to climb steeply up to the Grange Teppas. Continue to climb along the mule track to the next Grange, the Guiaud. Beyond, the path continues to reach the Colle des Acles.

I have been a vacationer in Bardonecchia since 2005. I gladly return every year even if I often take walks I took previously. Particularly beautiful is the one leading to Guiaud. it is one of the most demanding, but unique of its kind for beauty, for freshness. the effort of climbing even if it exists is not felt.
