Aprica in the summer
Aprica is located at 1.200 meters above sea level, in Valtellina, on the pass of the same name that connects the Adda valley to Valcamonica. Located on the eastern edge of the Orobie Valtellinesi chain, it is very close to the Swiss border which gives access to the Poschiavo valley.
Aprica offers its visitors and tourists many attractions in the summer season, also because the relative ease of many routes present makes it accessible to all with the possibility of making suggestive excursions immersed in nature, without however renouncing the view of magnificent views of the Lombard Alps.
In summer in Aprica it is possible to practice many outdoor sports: mountain biking, cycling, tennis, golf, but also more extreme sports such as canyoning and canoeing in uncontaminated streams and rivers.
For trekking and mountain biking there are hundreds of kilometers of perfectly marked trails, which allow tourists and enthusiasts to go deep into the protected areas, to discover the immense natural heritage.
Another characteristic of the locality is the presence of a Unique Alpine Eco-Faunistic Observatory: it extends for over 20 hectares, well defined on the borders, where an equipped educational-naturalistic path winds, easy to follow, along which the visitor has the opportunity to get to know nature and observe the plant and animal species present in the park almost to touch them. The park also organizes guided excursions with the opportunity to see the animals up close (including a pair of brown bears).
We also point out the natural park of the Orobie Alps, which extends on the northern side of the Alps with the same name for about 44.000 hectares. Still unknown to mass tourism, this park, protected by the mountains, guards, alongside an ancient human presence, the secrets of one nature still intact.
Another very suggestive and easily accessible location from Aprica is Pian di Gembro, a natural reserve dating back to 1988, where it is possible to observe interesting specimens of carnivorous plants near the lakes on the plain.
Among the various paths it is worth trying one of the most particular paths of this valley; of naturalistic and historical interest, it is the Historical-military path: created by the Comunità Montana Valtellina di Tirano, the trail begins near the Quercia Antica Agritourism Company, along the road that climbs from Aprica to Trivigno. It is an easy route that leads to the Monte della Croce area, a place where some tunnels and pitches dating back to the First World War are still visible. It is particularly suitable for short educational excursions.
